The Basketball Federation of India along with FIBA are set to conduct the FIBA Coaching Certification Courses Level 1 & 2 in various parts of the country. While Level 2 registrations are closed and full, Level 1 registrations are still open. 

Bengaluru, 1st November, 2015: The Basketball Federation of India along with FIBA are set to conduct the FIBA Coaching Certification Courses Level 1 & 2 in various parts of the country. Each clinic will be a 5-day course of 2 sessions per day, consisting of theoretical as well as practical sessions that also includes a written and practical evaluation.

 

These courses are held in line with BFI and FIBA’s long-term coaching development strategy. Hence, all current and aspiring coaches in India are encouraged to take active interest as it helps in improving their chances to coach the National Team along with developing the game in India. FIBA Instructor Mr. Nelson G. Isley will be the instructor at these courses; he has over 40 years of International basketball as a player, coach and instructor.  This will be the US born Isley’s fifth time in India.  His previous stints in India were for the conduct of 14 similar clinics.

The details of the clinic are as follows:

·         5 day clinic

o   Days 1 - 2: Theoretical Class Sessions

o   Days 3 – 5: Practical Teaching Court Sessions (Day 4 will include one session of the examination)

o   Applications will be reviewed as they come in and confirmation letters will be sent to each coach individually if the met the criteria and seats are still available.

·         All participating coaches are responsible for their own room, board and travel arrangements.

·         Certificates: Coaches who pass the course get FIBA Level 1 or Level 2 Certification Certificate and those who don’t pass get a participation certificate.

·         Level 1 Details:

o   Level 1 Certification Passing Requirements:

§  1 – 75% to pass written examination (written examination is in English).

§  2 – Practical Teaching Court Sessions will also factor into passing of Level 1 Certification. Practical session passing will be at the discretion of the FIBA Coach.

§  Coaching Curriculum for Level 1 is attached as Annexure II.

o   Total 30 participating coaches on a first come first serve basis for those who fit the below mentioned criteria. As such we suggest the coaches submit the registration forms ASAP to ensure they are registered for the course.

o   Registration Criteria

§  Ability to read and write English (examination is in English)

§  Above 18 years old.

§  Active coach, ideally at the school or college level.

 

We encourage all current and aspiring state coaches to attend, as FIBA will be requiring these certifications to participate internationally.  Additionally, the BFI will be implementing a similar coaching structure/system in the future in which certain minimum certifications / qualifications are required to coach at the National Levels.

About FIBA Coaching Certification Courses

FIBA, the world governing body for basketball, organizes these courses across the world as a development initiative. These courses have been organized in India since 2013 with the plan to have as many FIBA Certified coaches in India to help develop the game at a higher level. These courses are all a part of the long-term strategy of the BFI and FIBA to increase the coaching knowledge of the game at the grassroot as well as lite levels.
